Wash-out win!

Back home safe and sound. Decided to come back to civilization. Storms cut detecting short, besides hot and humid weather is unbearable. Spent an hour digging and found $1.30(2-quarters,7-dimes,10 pennies). The soil in Misty's yard is soft and sandy-like and I found 1965 dimes down 10 inches, and a 1966 quarter 12" down. I would like to believe there is silver here but it is way deeper than my Minelab could detect. Anyway it wasn't a complete bust because we drove 2 miles over river to Lady Luck casino and played penny-slots and I won $240. I like winning so got out like a bandit grinning from ear-to-ear. Ask and you shall receive

How ironic life can be. Last post on Tuesday I hoped for diamond ring and lo and behold, I found one today. Went to same newer school yesterday and found $3.22, and decided to try again today. After 1 hour and 92 cents, it hit. It says 18 karat on inside and has 5 diamonds plus an added bonus, a large ruby. I was so excited I quit and went home to clean it up. I want to get it appraised, but that will have to wait, as I am heading up to the mighty Mississippi for a weekend of detecting at some of my girlfriends daughters places. Old houses and I am pumped and on a roll.HH ~Andy~

Today was hottest day this year in southeast Wi. 95 in Waukesha with heat index at 105. Only 80 at 9a.m. so I thought I'd "Shoot" awhile. I went to local school and spent 2 hours cooking in heat before I had enough. I was happy to find $2.07,(6 quarters,5 dimes,7 pennies). No oldies but this is a newer school and expectations were low anyhow. Still happy about ratio of larger denominations and I have a lot of ground yet to discover. With how large this space is, and how little an area I covered, I think it still has potential. A diamond ring would be nice! We will see.

To hot to detect anywhere but online today, sometimes surfing is almost as fun, well almost! The historical society was very grateful for my 3 donations of local tokens of Waukesha. One was a bus token from the early 50's,another was a parking token for First National Bank of Waukesha (long gone), and the third was the large cent-looking coin dated 1868. According to the curator it was some sort of token presented by the Mason's and a real find for the museum, as they had no representation of this piece. As far as I'm concerned, it was a great honor to me to donate these pieces knowing they will be on display for future generations....YAY! So always consider donating special finds like this, it just might be a good way to keep this wonderful hobby going, and it makes us Detectorists look good too. Who knows, maybe opening more old yards up for exploration as well.HH ~Andy~

Storms on way

Thought I'd beat the rain and try the terrain today. I spent two hours in an old park that has been hit numerous times, and I believe it needs a rest. Seven pennies is all I could muster. On a good note though, one was a wheatie(1952-s). This puts my running total at $21.84. An interesting token find could turn out to be special though, as the historical museum has contacted me about this find. It is the size of a large cent and says "One Penny" on front, yet the reverse states "1868 chartered Feb. 5 by City of Waukesha". I truly don't know what to make of it and found the best place for this would be a local museum. The curator is excited to document this piece and I would be pleased to contribute this piece of history for all to see in our community. I have an appointment tomorrow at 3 and will keep you informed as to it's origin. HH ~Andy~

June 12; weather still in 50's,wonderful temperatures to detect. yesterday found me in locale park adding to ongoing totals. I found $1.20. (1 quarter,5 dimes 4 nickels 25 pennies) Some would question a persons sanity and ask "Is this really worth it" and my answer will always be the same...."Of course". Where else can you find a hobby that pays you for your time? Sure, I spent two hours to find those coins and only got .60 cents an hour, but my round of golf the day prior cost me $20.00 for 2 hours and believe me I didn't get anywhere near the satisfaction I get from detecting. Besides all the savings, ( I lost 4 balls at $1.50 a pop) there is always the chance at the "Big day". Take two days ago as an example, I found a gold ring with two diamonds and those can be found at any given time as well. The point is you can make .10 an hour, or quite possibly alot more. The opportunities are endless and that excites me enough for the pursuit. In two months time I've collected $21.65, 3 rings, 1 silver earring, 4 tokens, and many other tidbits of history. Many coins can be worth much more than face value and that adds to the allure. Instead of letting your imagination run wild, go and conquer. Happy hunting!

Set an example

Coins are fun to find, especially old and valuable coins. Let's work together to make sure Metal detecting stays as a legal hobby. Always ask for permission, and always take all garbage with you. Make sure to fill all holes dug and make sure grass is back in place and will reroot itself.
