scolded today but worth it
Went past an old pumping station today that was real old brick and said what the heck. 20 minites and I got a real light hit reading dime. the deeper coins are real hard to find and this was no exception. 10 minutes and a large stack of dirt later out pops my silver dime. 1902-S barber is my first one in 5 years. Not in great condition but I am happy. Moved on and got another dime hit at 7 inches and dug for 10 min. again and a city truck pulled in and told me I was tresspassing and told me to fill hole and leave or he would call cops! Dang that other dime is bothering me big time now. So went down to coin roll park and mustered up another $1.56 in clad. To date now stands at $104.51HH~Andy~

lmao
went to newer park today thinking it might be 1 of my last for year and what a treat I received! Got loud 80 reading and thought aluminum can and dug anyway! I have found a couple of rolls in my life but never 2 in 1 hole! Rolls were rotted but coins were there and some looked like new except edges. 2 full rolls of dimes which I had to dig and dig for until all 100 were recovered! I figure they were lost in 96 because all dates were from 67-96 and most were 95! Never think twice about digging as I almost did! Also found 5 newer quarters,1 nickel and 7 pennies before stopping in 2 hours. $11.37 in 2 hours is like minimum wage! hehe! OMG brought my total to $100.01 for year. I cant possibly quit yet, I'm still laughing!

Indianhead park
I love this old park I've tryed a couple times and gave it a name! Found $3.33 today with my 3rd Indian head... an 1889 in good condition! Also found a 1942-S silver nickel and a 1946-S nickel which are rare and 2 wheaties(1942-1945). Two other 50's nickels and alot of 65-70 dimes and quarters. And to add to the fun I found a musket ball and a pounded metal arrowhead! To date coins are at $88.64HH~Andy!

Another 40 degree day with rain all changed by 10 am as southerly wind pushed rain north and brought in 70 degree day, 1st time in 3 and a half weeks. Time to dig and was shocked at 2nd Indian head, again an 1891. this is really weird as I found 2 v-nickels this year(both 1912) now 2 Indian head pennies (both 1891)? I've detected on and off for 32 years and seen alot of strange things, but this takes the cake! Found $2.84 in 2 hours brings my total for year at 85.31 Biggest finds were 2 gold rings(got $246 for them), 5 silver rings,22 silver coins,36 wheat-backs and 2 indian heads of which I kept all for collection! I now need just 3 wheaties to fill my 1930-1958 book! Next year I plan on denting that 1909-1940 book hard as lots of spaces remain!

nickel day!
Was at bank today as it rained and temp. around 40! Said to myself "lets cash in these coins and buy somemore! Good choice, brought home $20 in nickels and was astonished at what I found...
1935, 1935-D, and 1937-D buffalos all in different tubes! And I also found a 1943-S silver nickel and 1939-D and about 20 more from 40's and 50's! I think I found a lucrative way to detect over the winter!HH~Andy~

Gosh, it seems like forever since I've been here, but I'm back! Been working with marriage thing and now that is out of way I hope to detect a few more times before snow! Honeymooned in vegas and now its time to earn some money back! Went out today in 40 degree temps and found 2 silver rings, a timex watch, a christian token and $6.85! Included in my finds were my first Indian head penny(1891), V-nickel(1912)-2nd 1912 this year and 7 wheat backs. My year to date total is now at $82.47! Cashed in my 2 gold rings for $246 but have kept the 20 silver coins and 4 silver rings so I estimate I'v found around 450 bucks this year! Great for a hobby! Still looking for job!

Haven't got out in awhile, but decided to dig an old yard with new machine yesterday and it panned out fairly well. Found ring # 9, solid silver with orange birthstone. Also $4.00 in change including 1956 dime, a rarer 1913-d wheatie, 1945-s wheat, 1952 canadian penny, and one penny that is so worn I cannot get date. I do see a 9 at the end and want to wish it is a 1909-s VDB but I may never know and probably don't want to knowHA!HH~Andy~

More found money to add to economy!
Went to a friends house yesterday which didn't take but an hour, and for a 50's house I was kinda disappointed. 19 cents total and a lot of junk. I did find 1 1956-d dime and 2 wheatbacks from the 40's. Went back to my 50's school and hoped to find more rings but alas, no such luck! Did manage to scrounge up $3.71 with one 1929 wheatie. For a couple hours I guess I can't complain(8 quarters, 14 dimes, 3 nickels and 16 pennies). I guess after finding 2 rings on monday my hopes were set higher!HH~Andy~

Silver and Gold!!!!!
Best day this year as it started with dig I started before rain yesterday. I dug the plug out and found a .925 solid silver ring, mini happy dance and moved on. Working around the playground produced $1.79 in clad(4 quarters,6 dimes, 1 nickel, and 14 pennies). I was at it about 2 hours and started to work my way back to car digging 5 straight pull tabs and 1 more beep giving me a VDI of 14 and I said what the heck, 1 more dig and I bent down on my sore knee and dug 3" and to my surprise, out pops a gold ring. 14K with 3 small diamonds, Now comes the major happy dance! Year to date totals are $55.01 in coins(28 wheat backs, 1 buffalo nickel, 1 V-nickel, 3 war- nickels, 2 mercury dimes, 5 rosies, 5 washington silvers, 1 silver kennedy half, and 1 Liberty half). Other notables are 8 rings(2 gold with diamonds and 2 silver), 7 tokens, 1918 Canadian penny, 200 lire, 2 Groschen, 15 hotwheels, 1 brooch(silver), 1 earring(silver), 1 dollar coin, 1 money clip, 5 dollar bill, 2 dog tags, and a partridge which I still believe fell out of a pear tree! lotta rain
Rained hard last night and this morning and when sun broke thru I saw a 1 hour window to go back to school. .53 cents was all I could muster(1 quarter,2 dimes,8 pennies). A couple interesting finds included a 1925 Groschen 2 which I believe is German for 2 cents that was only 1" down, guessing someone lost their show and tell item. Also found what appeared to be a tiny phonograph player made of metal, after taking it home I discovered it was a pencil sharpener! Unique if nothing else! I also found a spot that showed dime at 6 " and as I started to dig the sky opened up and I raced to my SUV. I'll dig that one first thing tomorrow! Came home and watched 2-3 more inches of rain fall, guess the drought is over...YAY!HH~Andy~

First real rain in 6 weeks
After 2" of rain last night and this morning I thought I'd have a go at another school built in 50's and for 2 hours in ungodly heat and humidity I did all right. Found $2.74 including 7 quarters, 7 dimes, 3 nickels, and 14 pennies. One silver quarter (1964-D) which was my second one with this date. The other $2.49 was clad, but I'll go back again. Seems like it hasn't been hit in awhile as anytime I can find a couple bucks in 2 hours I feel blessed.HH~Andy~

After itty-bitty rain today, I could not stand it anymore and went out for 1 hour to another school. Someone was already here as I noticed plenty of plugs that have not healed! I still managed to scoop up $1.32(3 quarters,4 dimes, 3 nickels and 2 pennies). All newer except one 1964-D dime which ironically was three inches deeper than the newer penny I found at 1". It really pays to recheck those holes! Started to evaluate it and figured someone had passed that penny for other treasures as my VDI was showing penny all the way, until I took it out and rescanned, then it showed solid dime. For some reason the silver are always a louder and more positive beep! That is silver coin # 14 this year! This year total on coins is at $49.64!HH~Andy~

1 more try!
Half an hour before rain, decided to do neighbors 1 last time and it was the last time, as I dug everything else that beeped. Couple of items to note though, a 1951 quarter and a silver owl brooch along with 2 recent pennies, 4 pulltabs,1 large nail and an old tapper I assume from beer keg. Oh well, more silver.....Let it rain!HH~Andy~

Collection building
Went back to my sisters yesterday to redo the ground I'd already swept with Minelab and was impressed with the results of two hours. Found $1.12 including 2 silver (1964 kennedy half and a 1954-D rosy). I also found 5 wheaties from 40's and 50's, a silver Rogers spoon, another chuck e cheese token dated 1986(In pizza we trust), and the most interesting find was a 1981: 200 lire Italian coin. Sized like a quarter and bronze-looking. Anyone know the exchange rate? HH

Old school
Went to old school from 1889 again today for 2 hours, and still located more goodies. $1.76 (4 quarters, 5 dimes, 4 nickels, and 6 pennies). One dime was a 1947-D rosy and another war nickel was 1943-p and 1946 nickel. This spot must have been hit many times, yet still produces some old coinage which goes to show that a spot is never completely detected so don't be afraid to try places over. To date I'm at $47.03 with 1o silver now, and 5 rings, 2 of which are valuable.HH

again!
Went to friends apartment today for an hour with new MXT-300 and ran over part of yard I already did with my Minelab. Lo and behold I was amazed at what I found. $1.08 in an hour including 4 wheat back pennies and my favorite coin find to date.....1939-D liberty standing half dollar in mint condition. One foot down and still shiny as new. OMG I cannot say enough for this detector-DEEP,DEEP,DEEP! I must look back at places I've gone and redo them all. It really pays to buy the best! Thank you White's, I've never been more impressed with performance.

Now this is detecting
The whites MXT-300 is the nicest detector I have ever owned! Starting to understand how to find deep stuff; it isn't easy, but I'm starting to figure out those deep, weak bleeps. Between the 100 year old Victorian that I hunted last night, and the 120 year old school I hunted today, I believe I'm on my way to some real treasure! Included in the $5.20 cents I found in 4 hrs. was a 1954 rosy dime, 1944 quarter, 1943-p war nickel, 1918 canadian penny(large in size and in excellent condition due to the fact it was incapsulated in some sort of leather pouch that flaked away upon touch). I also found an old jacknife that will not open, a 1977 trans-am T-roof hotwheel(date is on bottom),and a glass oil lamp(still intact) with metal rim on top. Some of these items were over a foot deep and I almost gave up. NEVER give up on deep stuff, it's what pays for the detector! I still have alot to learn about this machine, but my confidence is growing!
I know these places have been hit before, but this MXT-300 found stuff others missed! P.S. I just love the way silver still looks good after all these years! HH~Andy~

Mosquitos love me
Today was bad day for metal detecting. The mosquitos are everywhere and my deet didn't even phase them. Managed to last 2 hours before my blood count went south. $2.37 found(8quarters,
3dimes,and 7 pennies) all newer but they spend after cleaning. I clean my clad with white vinegar and add salt(works great). I just use vinegar for pennies. Those newer zinc pennies are not made for wear though as I have hundreds of unspendable ones that have craters (some holes go straight thru coin). Or how bout those coins that have been hit by mowers(I've even got half coins).HH~Andy~

Fun weekend
Spent a couple hours of my road trip metal detecting, should have been more but there was to much else to do including driving ATVs, shooting off fireworks, trap shooting, picnic at lake(Did detect shortly and found .83),fireworks and meeting all girlfriends relatives. We did find old site in woods that had to go back 200 years, as there were trees 80 years old growing out of foundation. I found 1-1912V nickel and a token for 25 cents in trade that must go back to early 1800's, as well as some very old ball jar glass and covers. Tics were plentiful and very difficult terrain made it tough but we shall return. Today at park I found .93 in an hour and a couple coins were keepers.(1958-D quarter,1938 penny,and1946 penny). I believe this Whites MXT-300 and I are going to be good friends!HH~Andy~

Deeper is better
Not all detectors are the same, some work deeper and better than others so I decided to get another one yesterday. I bought a Whites MXT-300 and tested in park for 2 hours.(1-50cent,3-quarters,7dimes,2nickels,and 14pennies). All newer clad but shows promise. I am heading up to northern Wis. today to try on old farm. Now that I have 2, my girlfriend will get to join me with the Minelab V-30. I was extremely impressed with the pinpoint on this machine until I tried the MXT, wow what a machine, shows 2 pictures of what you detected(1st and 2nd probabilities) plus Vdi and depth accurate to the nth degree. I've heard people taking dimes at 13 inches with this 12" double-D coil and I'm hoping to confirm this weekend. Must get going, 4-drive to go.HH ~Andy~

SILVER
Well today was a good day, I found $1.95(4 quarters, 7 dimes, 1 nickel and ten pennies). I've been hitting the same school for over a week now and even though its not old, it sure is productive! One of the dimes I found was a 1923 mercury head 10" down and I'm starting to wonder if this wasn't an old farm at one time. The diamond/ruby ring I found last week was deep and old as well. I'll keep working it.HH~Andy~

Wash-out win!
Back home safe and sound. Decided to come back to civilization. Storms cut detecting short, besides hot and humid weather is unbearable. Spent an hour digging and found $1.30(2-quarters,7-dimes,10 pennies). The soil in Misty's yard is soft and sandy-like and I found 1965 dimes down 10 inches, and a 1966 quarter 12" down. I would like to believe there is silver here but it is way deeper than my Minelab could detect. Anyway it wasn't a complete bust because we drove 2 miles over river to Lady Luck casino and played penny-slots and I won $240. I like winning so got out like a bandit grinning from ear-to-ear. Ask and you shall receive
How ironic life can be. Last post on Tuesday I hoped for diamond ring and lo and behold, I found one today. Went to same newer school yesterday and found $3.22, and decided to try again today. After 1 hour and 92 cents, it hit. It says 18 karat on inside and has 5 diamonds plus an added bonus, a large ruby. I was so excited I quit and went home to clean it up. I want to get it appraised, but that will have to wait, as I am heading up to the mighty Mississippi for a weekend of detecting at some of my girlfriends daughters places. Old houses and I am pumped and on a roll.HH ~Andy~

Today was hottest day this year in southeast Wi. 95 in Waukesha with heat index at 105. Only 80 at 9a.m. so I thought I'd "Shoot" awhile. I went to local school and spent 2 hours cooking in heat before I had enough. I was happy to find $2.07,(6 quarters,5 dimes,7 pennies). No oldies but this is a newer school and expectations were low anyhow. Still happy about ratio of larger denominations and I have a lot of ground yet to discover. With how large this space is, and how little an area I covered, I think it still has potential. A diamond ring would be nice! We will see.

To hot to detect anywhere but online today, sometimes surfing is almost as fun, well almost! The historical society was very grateful for my 3 donations of local tokens of Waukesha. One was a bus token from the early 50's,another was a parking token for First National Bank of Waukesha (long gone), and the third was the large cent-looking coin dated 1868. According to the curator it was some sort of token presented by the Mason's and a real find for the museum, as they had no representation of this piece. As far as I'm concerned, it was a great honor to me to donate these pieces knowing they will be on display for future generations....YAY! So always consider donating special finds like this, it just might be a good way to keep this wonderful hobby going, and it makes us Detectorists look good too. Who knows, maybe opening more old yards up for exploration as well.HH ~Andy~

Storms on way
Thought I'd beat the rain and try the terrain today. I spent two hours in an old park that has been hit numerous times, and I believe it needs a rest. Seven pennies is all I could muster. On a good note though, one was a wheatie(1952-s). This puts my running total at $21.84. An interesting token find could turn out to be special though, as the historical museum has contacted me about this find. It is the size of a large cent and says "One Penny" on front, yet the reverse states "1868 chartered Feb. 5 by City of Waukesha". I truly don't know what to make of it and found the best place for this would be a local museum. The curator is excited to document this piece and I would be pleased to contribute this piece of history for all to see in our community. I have an appointment tomorrow at 3 and will keep you informed as to it's origin. HH ~Andy~

June 12; weather still in 50's,wonderful temperatures to detect. yesterday found me in locale park adding to ongoing totals. I found $1.20. (1 quarter,5 dimes 4 nickels 25 pennies) Some would question a persons sanity and ask "Is this really worth it" and my answer will always be the same...."Of course". Where else can you find a hobby that pays you for your time? Sure, I spent two hours to find those coins and only got .60 cents an hour, but my round of golf the day prior cost me $20.00 for 2 hours and believe me I didn't get anywhere near the satisfaction I get from detecting. Besides all the savings, ( I lost 4 balls at $1.50 a pop) there is always the chance at the "Big day". Take two days ago as an example, I found a gold ring with two diamonds and those can be found at any given time as well. The point is you can make .10 an hour, or quite possibly alot more. The opportunities are endless and that excites me enough for the pursuit. In two months time I've collected $21.65, 3 rings, 1 silver earring, 4 tokens, and many other tidbits of history. Many coins can be worth much more than face value and that adds to the allure. Instead of letting your imagination run wild, go and conquer. Happy hunting!

Set an example
Coins are fun to find, especially old and valuable coins. Let's work together to make sure Metal detecting stays as a legal hobby. Always ask for permission, and always take all garbage with you. Make sure to fill all holes dug and make sure grass is back in place and will reroot itself.
